NACOGDOCHES - Sophomore Shahin Pabani scored three goals and dished out an assist to lead the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team past McNeese State, 4-2, Friday evening at the SFA Intramural Complex. The Ladyjacks close out the season with a 11-4-3 (.694) overall record and won the league regular-season title with a 9-1-2 (.833) SLC mark.
The Ladyjacks gave up an early goal to the Cowgirls but Pabani responded to tie the game at the 10:43 mark of the first half. Pabani's goal came only 40 seconds after the McNeese State goal. The Ladyjacks were on the attack just over two minutes later when senior Sophia Pantazis netted her 11th goal of the season to give SFA a 2-1 advantage.
The Cowgirls would net one final goal off the leg of Aubrey Smith to tie the game at 2 but that would be as close to victory as McNeese State would get. Pabani netted the Ladyjacks third goal at the 23:30 mark of the first half. The Ladyjacks went into halftime with the one goal lead.
Sophomore goalkeeper Vanessa Callaway settled down from that point on and didn't allow McNeese State another goal. Callaway picked up the victory playing 90 minutes and recording three saves.
Pabani also scored the game's final goal when she netted her 14th of the season at the 48:38 mark of the second half.
The Ladyjacks will enter the 2004 SLC Championships as the No. 1 seed and receive a first-round bye. SFA will return to action Friday Nov. 5, in the semifinals of the tournament, which will be hosted by Southeastern Louisiana in Hammond, La.
