HAMMOND, La. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team's dream of going back to the NCAA Championships ended Friday afternoon in the semifinals of the Southland Conference tournament. The Ladyjacks were ousted, 2-1, by Louisiana-Monroe. SFA ends its season with an 11-5-3 (.658) overall record.
The first half was a scoreless affair that saw SFA attempt 12 shots while holding the Lady Indians to only one. Sophomore Shahin Pabani gave SFA a one-goal lead early in the second half when she scored in the 48th minute of the game. But ULM rallied scoring a goal in the 58th minute to tie the game. ULM's Megan Moore netted the game-winning goal at the 80:26 mark.
Senior Christie Mestayer finished her final game dishing out one assist. Junior goalkeeper Natascia Michalezki played all 90 minutes recording four saves.
"This is a very disappointing loss," said SFA head coach Nicole Nelson. "ULM should be commended for the way they played and for executing their system. ULM is a team that is playing with a lot of heart and momentum right now. This shouldn't take away from the great season we had. Unfortunately things didn't go our way today but I'm proud of this team and what they accomplished."
