SAN MARCOS, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team dropped its first Southland Conference game of the season Sunday afternoon in San Marcos. Texas State picked up a 4-3 overtime win over SFA. The Ladyjacks are now 8-4-1 (.615) overall and 6-1-0 (.857) in league play.
The Ladyjacks fell behind 2-0 within the games first 13 minutes but responded by scoring the game's next three goals. Senior Christie Mestayer put SFA on the board with her unassisted goal at the 53:31 mark of the game. Sophomore Shahin Pabani tied the game exactly 2:24 later with her team-high 10th goal of the season. The Ladyjacks stayed on the offensive attack as junior Kim Gray netted a goal less than five minutes later to give SFA its first lead of the game.
But that would be as close as the Ladyjacks would get to victory as Texas State scored a goal with only 1:28 left on the clock. The Bobcats netted the gamewinner only 34 seconds into the extra period.
"We're obviously disappointed with the loss," said SFA head coach Nicole Nelson. "I think we showed a lot of heart to battle back but we've got to learn to play a full 90 minutes. Coach Conner and her Bobcats should be commended for finishing their opportunities."
The Ladyjacks return to action Friday when they return home to host Louisiana-Monroe. The game against the Lady Indians is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., from the SFA Intramural Complex.
