TULSA, Okla. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team kicked off the 2003 season Friday night in Tulsa, Okla., against the Golden Hurricane. Tulsa defeated SFA, 5-0.
Tulsa scored three goals within 21 minutes of each other in the first half of the game to take a commanding 3-0 lead. TU's Kristie Keirsey gave the Golden Hurricane the lead with her goal at the 18:04 mark of the first half.
The Ladyjacks' defense unit regrouped and held Tulsa scoreless for the next 44:47. Sophomore goalkeeper Natascia Michalezki (Calgary, Alberta) finished the game with eight saves in 90 minutes of action.
Tulsa closed out the game with two goals in the final 6:09 of the game.
"The score is not indicative how this team played," said SFA head coach Nicole Nelson. "We still have some kinks that we have to work out. I was very encouraged by our work routine, confidence and composure in the second half. It is a positive sign of where this team is headed."
The Ladyjacks return to action Saturday when they face Oral Roberts. The game is slated to get underway at 7 p.m., in Tulsa, Okla.
