NATCHITOCHES, La. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack softball team earned a split Saturday against with Northwestern State, with the Demons winning the first game, 3-0, and SFA taking the second, 5-1. The Ladyjacks are now 26-28 overall and 10-13 in the Southland Conference.
Senior Devin Cobb took the loss in the first game as she went the distance surrendering three runs on eight hits. But the Ladyjacks were unable to provide Cobb with any offense, as they were held scoreless.
It looked like SFA might get shutout again in the second game as it was scoreless heading into the top of the 10th inning. The Ladyjacks put a run on the board in their half of the inning but were unable to hold the lead in the Demons half as Northwestern State came right back to tie the game at one. But the floodgates opened in the top of the 11th as SFA scored four runs to take a commanding 5-1 lead. The four run lead was enough for junior Crissy Autry as she slammed the door shut on Northwestern State in the bottom half of the inning. Autry went 11 innings, giving up one run on two hits for the victory. Freshman Crista Hargrove was the hero for SFA as she went 1-for-5 in the game driving in three runs and scoring a run. Sophomore Ragen Rutherford went 1-for-4 with and RBI and junior Brooke Chandler also recorded and RBI.
The Ladyjacks close out the series against Northwestern State Saturday in Natchitoches. The game is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
