SFA Wins Final Game Of Series 6-4 Over SWT

SAN MARCOS, TEXAS -- The SFA softball team salvaged to the final game of a three game series with Southwest Texas Sunday afternoon with a 6-4 win to move to 13-13, 5-4 on the year. The loss was the first for Southwest Texas (17-9, 5-1) in Southland Conference play.
Crissy Autry (6-8) pitched six innings in picking up the win, and handed Nicole Neuerberg (10-5), her first loss in conference action. Autry gave up four runs on four hits and struck out a season high 12 batters. The 'Jacks touched up Neuerberg for six runs on 10 hits, she struck out 11.
Jaime Brown and Brooke Chandler teamed to ignite the SFA attack as they combined for five hits on the afternoon. Brown went 3-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, while Chandler was 2-3 with an RBI and run scored.
The 'Jacks hung up a five run inning in the third inning to take a 5-2 lead after Meryl McGuire led off the frame with a single through the right side. She then stole second base and third base and later scored when Brown drove her in with a single. SFA added four more runs on singles by Chandler, Crista Hargrove and Ragen Rutherford. The five runs would prove enough for Autry as she held the Bobcats in check the rest of the way.
Carrie Woydziak singled with one out in the fourth inning, stole second then was moved to third base on Brown's double. She later scored with the Southwest Texas third baseman made a throwing error on a ball off the bat of Chandler.
SFA returns to action Wednesday afternoon with a non-conference doubleheader against St. Louis at the Coy Sims Softball Complex in Nacogdoches. The 'Jacks will also face Prairie View A&M later this week in non-conference action before hosting UT-San Antonio Saturday and Sunday in a Southland Conference series. Admission is free and all games will be played at the complex on Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.
