
Ladyjacks Close Out Season With Victory

LAKE CHARLES, La. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team scored four goals and got another dominating performance from its defense to close out the regular season with 4-0 victory over McNeese State Friday afternoon. The Ladyjacks finish the season with a school-record 13 wins.
The Ladyjacks took a 1-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game when sophomore Kim Gray scored her fifth goal of the season. Classmate Sara Hernandez was credited with the assist.
SFA held a 2-0 lead when junior Christie Mestayer scored a goal in the 35th minute of the game on a pass from freshman Alicia Reese. Senior goalkeeper Heather Matchette made the lead stand as she played the first 45 minutes action and held the Cowgirls scoreless.
Sophomore Kendra Cannon added a goal in the 79th minute to close out the Ladyjacks' scoring. The goal was Cannon's 13th of the season.
"This was a good win," said SFA head coach Nicole Nelson. "I'm extremely proud of our team. They finished the season strong and proved that they could rebound from difficult times. I'm very confident of our team heading into the conference tournament."
With the victory the Ladyjacks will be at least the No. 2 seed in the Southland Conference Championships. The SLC tournament will be Friday Nov. 7th through Sunday Nov. 9th in Natchitoches, La.
