NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team moved to 11-3-1 and 7-1-0 in Southland Conference play Friday night with a 4-0 shutout of Nicholls State University (3-11-0, 1-6-0) at the SFA Intramural Complex. SFA outshot the Colonels 20-12, keeping the pressure on the visitors for most of the game.
Goalkeeper Natascia Michalezki had to make only three saves on the night as nine of the Nicholls State shots sailed wide. Michalezki also picked up her fifth shutout of the year. Nicholls State goalkeeper Lindsay Bartlett made 10 saves on the night while allowing four goals.
Kim Gray gave SFA a 1-0 lead at the 39:21 mark of the first half on a header off a corner kick from Christie Mestayer. Gray later added a second goal on an almost identical play when she scored her second goal of the night on another corner kick. The goal came at the 43:05 mark with the assist coming from Sara Hernandez.
Leading 2-0 at the half, SFA kept up the pressure outshooting the Colonels 10-9 in the second half and adding two additional goals. Lauren Cummings scored to make it 3-0 SFA, with 68:18 off the clock. Hernandez picked up her second assist of the night on the goal.
The 'Jacks added a final goal at 73:33 when Shahin Pabani scored following an assist from Kendra Cannon. Pabani followed Cannon's shot from the wing and buried it to put away the Colonels.
The win sets a new mark for SFA for wins in a season with 11. The 'Jacks close out the home season Sunday afternoon when they host Southeastern Louisiana, at 2:00 p.m., at the Intramural Field Complex. SLU handed SFA its only conference loss of the season earlier this month, in Hammond.
