NACOGDOCHES - Two second half goals within four minutes of each other was all the Ladyjacks needed to get by Louisiana-Monroe Friday night at the SFA Intramural Complex. SFA is now 9-3-1 overall and 5-1-0 in Southland Conference play.
The goalkeepers took center stage in the first half of this matchup as neither goalkeeper allowed a ball to get by them. The Lady Indians' Jessica Robinson faced 11 first-half shots recording four saves while SFA's Natascia Michalezki faced four shots recording a save on every shot. Michalezki finished the game with seven saves.
Freshman Alicia Reese broke the scoreless tie in the 64th minute of the game when she scored an unassisted goal. SFA was back on the attack four minutes later as Kendra Cannon drilled her team-high ninth goal of the season. Sophomore Jaime Ronca was credited with the assist.
The two goals were more than enough for Michalezki and the SFA defense, as she recorded her third shutout of the season.
SFA outshot the Lady Indians, 25-7.
"It is always hard coming off a loss," said SFA head coach Nicole Nelson. "But the girls did a great job of coming out tonight and staying focused on ULM. Despite the fact that we didn't score in the first half, it was one of the better ones we have played. We did a good job of being patient tonight. ULM is a very good team and this was a solid win for our squad."
The Ladyjacks return to action Sunday to face Northwestern State. The game against the Lady Demons is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., from the SFA Intramural Complex.
