NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team defeated Northwestern State, 1-0, Sunday afternoon at the SFA Intramural Complex. The Ladyjacks are now 10-3-1 (.750) on the season and 6-1-0 (.857) in the Southland Conference.
The pace of the game would be controlled by the defense all afternoon. Despite outshooting Northwestern State, 12-3, in the first half both teams went into the break without a goal.
The Ladyjacks appeared to take a 1-0 lead when they netted a goal early in the second half but it was negated because of an offsides call. The game remained scoreless until the 71st minute of the game freshman Kendra Cannon scored a goal on a pass from Alicia Reese. The goal was Cannon's 10th of the season.
The one-goal lead is all goalkeeper Natascia Michalezki would need as she recorded her second-straight shutout, and her fourth of the season. She finished the day with three saves in 90 minutes of action.
The Ladyjacks return to action Friday when they play host to Nicholls State. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., from the SFA Intramural Complex.
