Lady Eagles Shutout SFA Goalkeeper Natascia Michalezki records 13 saves
DENTON, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team lost to North Texas Tuesday night, 1-0, in Denton. The Ladyjacks are now 0-2 on the season.
The defenses dominated the game from the start, as Ladyjack goalkeeper Natascia Michalezki (Calgary, Alberta) had another solid outing. She faced 26 shots and recorded 13 saves while surrendering only one goal in her 90 minutes of action.
The Lady Eagles cracked the scoreboard at the 33-minute, 40-second mark when Melinda Pina scored an unassisted goal. That would be all the scoring North Texas needed as the Ladyjacks were held to just six shots.
"I was pleased with the overall performance of our team," said SFA head coach Nicole Nelson. "We performed well against a sound North Texas squad. The Lady Eagles are the defending Sun Belt Conference champions and returned nine starters, so I thought our girls played well considering the game was in front of their fans and we were short our leading scorer. We are a young team (eight freshman started) but we are putting it together."
The Ladyjacks return to action Sunday Sept. 8, when they travel to Stillwater, Okla., to take on Oklahoma State. The game against OSU is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
