
Ladyjack Netters Outlast Louisiana Tech

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack tennis team ended a four-match losing skid Monday afternoon when it beat Louisiana Tech, 4-3, at the SFA Tennis Courts. The Ladyjacks improve to 7-9 (.438) overall on the season.
SFA took an early 1-0 advantage after winning at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles. The duo of freshman Melissa Bass (Arlington, Texas) and Emily Voss (San Angelo, Texas) beat the Lady Techsters' Lauren Longbothom and Morgan Majors, 8-0 at No. 3 doubles for the first doubles win. Sophomore Jessica Beauchene (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) and junior Sandra Wolfe (Englewood, Colo.) finished off the doubles point by winning at No. 1 doubles, 8-3.
Louisiana Tech fought back to take a 2-1 lead with victories at Nos. 2 and 3 singles. The Ladyjacks tied the match at 2-2 when Wolfe beat the Lady Techsters' Holly Ready, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 4 singles. Louisiana Tech picked up a win at No. 5 singles but the Ladyjacks were able to tie the match at 3, with only one match left, after freshman Ashley Johnson (Nacogdoches, Texas) beat the Lady Techsters' Majors, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 6 singles.
With the match tied at 3-3, Beauchene battled Louisiana Tech's Kristin Graif to three sets before deciding the match. Beauchene beat Graif, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2, to ice the win for SFA.
The Ladyjacks close the 2001-02 season Wednesday at Sam Houston State. The match is slated to start at 2 p.m., from Huntsville, Texas.
