Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack softball coach Jennifer Poulsen has added an assistant coach to her staff, naming Monica Armendarez to her staff. Armendarez will assist in all phases of the program with a primary focus on the team's hitters and infielders.
"I am very excited to have the opportunity to add someone to our program with the knowledge and skills that Monica possesses. She was a great collegiate player, played at the professional level and brings with her the knowledge she has gained through those experiences," said Poulsen.
Armendarez joins the SFA coaching staff after a playing career that saw her earn All-American honors for Indiana University as both a junior and senior. She was a Second Team All- Big 10 performer as a freshman and sophomore, and a First Team All-Big 10 selection in both her junior and senior seasons.
The 1998 graduate of Indiana University was a Second Team All-American in 1998, and was one of the country's best hitters as a collegiate player.
Following her college career, Armendarez played two seasons as a member of the Carolina Diamonds of the Women's Professional Softball League, and spent one season playing for the Akron Racers in 2000, where she was coached by Poulsen. This past summer, Armendarez spent the year playing for the WPSL All-Star Team.
The Carlsbad, New Mexico native also spent one season as an assistant coach at Southern Wesleyan University in Central, South Carolina.
