The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack softball team had its winning streak snapped at eight games Monday afternoon, when the University of Louisiana at Monroe got a two run home run in the top of the seventh inning to defeat SFA, 2-1.
The Ladyjacks move to 12-8 overall and 5-1 in SLC play with the loss, UL-M moves to 14-6 and 3-3 in SLC play.
Sophomore Morgan Tolleson threw six innings of shutout ball for SFA, giving up only one hit through the first six frames. Trailing 1-0 going into the top of the seventh inning, UL-M got a leadoff single from Kristy Dietz to set the table for the middle part of the order. Tolleson came back and got a strikeout of Mimi Randolph and a fly ball from shortstop Lori Tande to nearly escape the inning. However, catcher Casey Goodman then drove a two out pitch over the left field wall to give the Lady Indians a 2-1 lead.
SFA could not get a baserunner off Annie VanOosbree in the bottom of the seventh and lost 2-1.
The Ladyjacks scored their lone run in the second inning when Angela Froboese singled and came home on a two out double to left by Ashley Moffett. SFA mustered only one run on five hits off VanOosbree for the afternoon. Froboese was two for three with a run scored. For the series, Froboese was seven for nine with two runs scored and two RBIs.
SFA returns to action Tuesday afternoon as they travel to College Station to take on Texas A&M in a 5:00 p.m. doubleheader.
