LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - Ben Perkins scored 13 points as backups contributed 34 in leading McNeese State to a 74-51 victory over Stephen F. Austin in a Southland Conference game Saturday night.
With leading scorers Demond Mallet and Tierre Brown held to just 11 points each, the Cowboys (10-7 overall, 7-3 Southland) relied heavily on their reserves against SFA (6-9, 3-6).
The bench players went 12-for-20 of their field goal attempts and went 6-of-10 from the foul line.
Defensively, the Cowboys forced 23 turnovers, had 10 steals and blocked 7 shots - four of the blocks by Raynell Brewer.
Mallett, with a 23.4-point scoring average, entered the game as the fifth-ranked scorer in the nation. Brown was averaging 17.4 points per game.
Another reserve, Jason Coleman, added 11 points for McNeese.
Skip Jackson led SFA with 20 points and Ransom White had 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
