Junior Skip Jackson had 21 points and Scott Spradlin came off the bench to add 13 in leading the Lumberjacks to a season opening 64-60 win over Loyoloa University Chicago Sunday afternoon before 1,064 at the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
SFA shot 51% from the floor and outrebounded the Ramblers 33-26 for the game in the win. SFA trailed 37-35 at the half, but held the Ramblers scoreless for the first six minutes of the second half to take a 40-37 lead that they would never lose. The 'Jacks built as much as an 11-point lead at one point in the second half, only to see it evaporate in the face of a Rambler press.
Edwin Tatum led the 'Jacks on the glass with seven rebounds. Ron Banks and Kevin Daniels added six rebounds each.
SFA goes on the road for the first time Tuesday as they travel to Mobile, Alabama to take on South Alabama at 7:00 p.m.
