Nataki Stewart is in his first season as volunteer assistant coach for the Ladyjack soccer program.
Stewart comes to SFA following a two-year stint as a graduate assistant women’s soccer coach at the University of St. Thomas in Houston where he helped establish the program in 2014. During his two seasons, the Celts went 19-11-5, which included an unbeaten regular season record of 6-0-2 in the NAIA Red River Athletic Conference and a place in the conference championship game in 2015.
Working closely with the UST back line, Stewart turned the Celts into one of the best teams in the nation defensively in 2015. His team posted a .670 goals against average on the year, ranking 13th in the country. Stewart also served as the team's academic coordinator and saw the Celts receive the NSCAA Team Academic Award in the program’s first season.
In addition to working on the women’s side, Stewart put in one year as the graduate assistant men’s coach in 2015. The Celts went 10-5-2 during the year, which included another unbeaten run in the conference regular season at 8-0-0. Stewart assisted in all areas of both programs, specifically recruiting, defending, scouting of opponents and on-field training.
As a player, Stewart was a two-year letterwinner at San Jacinto College-South from 2010-2012 where he guided the Coyotes to two straight NJCAA Region XIV Conference finals under former U.S. Soccer Technical Advisor Dr. David Santesteban. In 2012, Stewart transferred across town to the University of St. Thomas where he was a NAIA Scholar Athlete during the 2013-14 academic year.
In his final season in 2013, Stewart was part of a defense that was ranked seventh in the country in goals against average (.690), ninth in total shutouts (9) and 11th in shutouts per game (.470). As a result, the Celts won their first ever Red River Athletic Conference title en route to their second NAIA National Tournament appearance.
Stewart is a native of Westmoreland, Jamaica. He currently holds his USSF “D” and NSCAA Level I GK Diplomas. In addition, he recently finished a finance concentration on a five-year fast track program and graduated with his Bachelor of Business Administration and Master of Business Administration degrees in May 2016.
What people are saying about Nataki
Nikola Barjaktarevic – Head Soccer Coach at the University of St. Thomas:
“I couldn’t have asked for a better person to be involved with our program and be a part of creating our team culture and Celt identity from the very beginning. His passion for soccer, for winning and preparation to do so, as well as his innate ability to relate and motivate our student-athletes turned out to be a big part of our success over the past two years. This is a fantastic opportunity for Coach Stewart, and a great progression for him as he continues to grow and develop as a coach. Being involved in all facets of our program prepares him well and I know he will make a huge impact on the championship tradition of the SFA Women’s Soccer Program.”
