Islanders fend off SFA’s sweep efforts
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi avoided Stephen F. Austin's sweep efforts on Saturday afternoon as the Islanders secured a game three victory 8-3 from Chapman Field. A&M-CC used three runs in the fifth and sixth innings create distance from the Lumberjacks. SFA moves to 18-15 overall with a 9-6 record in conference play.
Julian Swift plated Cermodrick Bland for the game's first run on a first inning groundout and two innings later the pair completed the double steal with Bland scoring on a throwing error attempting to cut him down at third. The Islanders posted seven runs over the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to grab a 7-2 lead.
Jhett Creel singled in the Jacks' final tally in the pre-stretch seventh as Ethan Adkisson scored on the base knock into center field.
Dylan Mulcahy went 5.0 innings, striking out four, before leaving following the fifth. The Jacks used five arms after Mulcahy with Brennan Greer finishing the sixth and working two outs into the seventh allowing one hit and a walk with no runs.
POSTGAME NOTES
