SFA wins for 14th time at Pilgrim’s Park, most since 2017 season
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin earned a win over the Big 12's Houston on Tuesday afternoon from Pilgrim's Park. The Jacks plated two runs in the first, three more in the sixth and relied on six arms to limit the Cougars in a 5-2 victory. It was the 24th of the season and the 14th at home which is the most in Nacogdoches for SFA since the 2017 season.
Former Cougar and first-year Lumberjack Coby DeJesus opened scoring on Tuesday afternoon taking an 0-2 pitch with two outs in the first inning into center field to score both Julian Swift and Mark Henning and give the Jacks an early 2-0 lead in support of Elian Balmaceda.
Houston's Jackson LaLima supplied the offense for the Cougars in the fifth and seventh innings. He singled into left field for UH's first run and in the pre-stretch seventh he hit a solo blast for Houston's second tally.
Between LaLima's work, the Jacks pushed across three insurance runs in the sixth as RBI singles from Rodric Black and Cermodrick Bland sandwiched a sacrifice fly by Cooper Schneider.
Balmaceda went 2.0 innings allowing just one hit and a walk as he faced one over the minimum. Brennan Greer pitched 2.2 innings and scattered four hits and a free pass with three strikeouts. Hayden Tronson worked three outs earning a bases loaded punchout to end the fifth, before Kadin Munson relieved him with two outs in the sixth.
Ayden Terry worked 1.1 innings striking out four batters. Jack James picked up his second save of the season recording the final five outs of the game as he was perfect in facing the minimum.
