Fast Start not Enough for Jacks in Opener Loss at Northwestern State
4/24/2026 10:07:00 PM | Baseball
SFA plates five first-inning runs, takes 8-3 lead through five, but surrenders six in sixth to drop fourth straight as SLC record evens at 11-11
The two dugouts combined for 36 hits on the night with the Jacks seeing multi-hit games from the first seven batters in their order highlighted by three-hit nights from Julian Swift and Juan Cantua with the latter delivering three RBI.
Cody Templeton went 5.1 innings and after allowing three runs to the Demons in the first, he responded by allowing four hits over the next four frames which concluded with an L3 double play to get out of the fifth.
NSU managed to get to Templeton in the sixth as the six-run frame was jumpstarted by a fielding error that allowed the first run score. The Demons produced seven hits in the inning and Reid Bowyer, the third arm to toss in the frame, registered the final two outs to strand the bases loaded. A one-out, three-run double by Thomas Marsalalll tied the game at 8-8 before Ethan Menard singled in the go-ahead run.
An RBI single from Swift and a two-run double by Cantua highlighted the first inning production for the Jacks. Cantua added an RBI single in the fifth. SFA pushed across runs via a throwing error, passed ball and a groundout.
