Jacks Drop Doubleheader to Southeastern Louisiana

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin softball team began their three-game midweek series against the Southeastern Louisiana Lions on Tuesday at the Lady Dragon Softball Field at Nacogdoches High School.
Game 1: SLU 2, SFA 1
The first game of the series saw an incredible pitcher's duel between Amelia Hatthorn and the duo of Haley Crawford and Hallie Burns. SFA struck first in the bottom of the first after Ellie Vance hit a single to third and then Adelyn Becerra drove her in with an RBI double to deep left center, 1-0. The next scoring came in the top of thethird as SLU scored two runs to take the lead, 2-1. Burns and Hatthorn held both offenses scoreless the rest of the game as SLU scratched out a 2-1 victory in game one of the doubleheader.
Game 2: SLU 5, SFA 2
The Lions got on the board quickly in game two as they scored three runs in the top of the first inning, 3-0. SFA took advantage of a defensive miscue by SLU to scratch across their first run in the bottom of the first to make it 3-1. SLU added two more runs in the top of the second, 5-1. After a scoreless third, SFA once again took advantage of a defensive error by the Lions to get their second run of the game across home, 5-2. Kai Hudson came on in relief in the top of the third and finished the game with five scoreless innings, but the SFA offense was unable to get anything going as the Lions swept the doublehead with a 5-2 victory in game two.
POSTGAME NOTES
• Adelyn Becerra went 2-3 in game one and recorded the lone RBI for the Jacks.
• Amelia Hatthorn pitched her fourth complete game of the season and allowed two runs and struck out one batter.
• In game two, six different Lumberjacks recorded a hit with Jamie Varga and Kyi'Marri Ester scoring the two runs for SFA.
• Kai Hudson came on out of the bullpen in game two and pitched five scoreless innings and struck out one batter.
