Jacks Fall in Sunday’s Finale to UTRGV

SFA issues seven walks, leaves eight runners on base in 9-3 loss
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin was unable to pull off a Southland Conference sweep of UTRGV on Sunday from Pilgrim's Park as the visiting Vaqueros salvaged the series with a 9-3 win. SFA moves to 20-17 overall and 11-7 in SLC play.
UTRGV jumped out to a 4-1 lead through two frames of action. SFA's run came courtesy of a Jhett Creel sacrifice fly that plated Cermodrick Bland in the home half of the first. The Jacks answered a Vaqueros run in the fourth inning as Josh Ibe singled home Juan Cantua from second in the home half of that inning. Ibe hit a sac fly in the sixth for what would be SFA's final tally.
The Vaqueros used two home runs, each a two-run shot out to right field, in the sixth and eighth innings to create distance from the host.
Five arms tossed for the Jacks on Sunday with Dylan Mulcahy suffering the loss after exiting in the third. He struck out five to four walks and three earned runs. Kadin Munson worked an out with Nate Vidlak (2.0 IP, 1 H, 2 BB) and Brennan Greer (2.1 IP, 4 H, 4 R) each throwing multiple innings. Charlie Feris worked the final 1.2 facing the minimum.
