Jacks Erupt with 11-Run Eighth, Rally for Series Win against Lamar
3/8/2026 6:00:00 PM | Baseball
SFA bangs out seven hits, draws five walks with one HBP in game-changing 8th to claim series, improve to 4-2 in SLC play
Reid Bowyer extinguished the Lamar threat in the ninth with a pair of flyouts to uphold Kadin Munson's 3.2 inning relief effort which saw him face three over the minimum, while limiting the Cardinals to just three hits, no free passes and a single run. The Jacks tossed six arms in the finale with a combined five strikeouts highlighted by a trio from the arm of Charlie Feris, in addition to stranding a dozen base runners as a staff.
In the eighth, the Jacks produced seven hits, drew five walks with one HBP and forced the Cardinals to make three pitching changes as four Lamar arms tossed in the frame.
With one out, Josh Ibe, Ethan Adkisson and Cooper Schneider all singled home runs. Following the first LU pitching change, Cermodrick Bland drew a four-pitch walk to plate a run, before Jhett Creel worked an eight-pitch at-bat to draw a free pass and a fifth SFA run in the inning as the Jacks pulled to within 9-8 before Julian Swift's second at-bat of the inning.
Swift, who singled to jumpstart the game-changing frame, walked in his second plate appearance to bring up Mark Henning, who belted his first home run of the season in the sixth. Henning delivered two more RBI on a base knock into centerfield to break the tie game and push SFA out front 11-9. The Jacks weren't through at the dish as Rodric Black walked in a run to welcome a new Lamar arm to the game, while Adkisson flew out to chase home SFA's 14th total run and 11th of the inning.
Prior to the eighth, the Jacks had managed three runs on seven hits as Juan Cantua followed Henning's blast by plating Peña who hit a ground-rule double. Lamar's production offensively was scattered over the second, third, fifth and sixth innings. The Cardinals produced home runs in the fifth and sixth and scratched two more in the ninth before Bowyer shut the door.
