Jacks Fall in Series Opener to Cardinals

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin softball team returned for their first home game in almost a month as they begin their series against the UIW Cardinals.
Crimson Bryant and Bella Mitchell started in the circle for the Jacks and Cardinals, and each pitched a scoreless first and second inning. UIW got on the board first in the top of the third, 1-0, and then extended their lead to four after a three-run top of the fifth, 4-0. SFA got the bottom of the fifth started with a leadoff triple from Jamie Varga followed by an RBI single from Kaylee Paul, 4-1. Later, a groundout from Kyi'Marri Ester gave Kaylee Paul enough time to score from third, 4-2.
POSTGAME NOTES
• Kaylee Paul and Ellie Vance led the team with two hits each.
• Jamie Varga and Kara Pride each hit a triple.
• Malia Jones and Lilly Bean each drew two walks.
• In the circle, Crimson Bryant and Amelia Hatthorn combined for eight strikeouts while only allowing seven hits.
