SFA plates six runs over fifth, sixth innings to grab lead; surrenders three runs over final two frames to drop series

HAMMOND, La. - A four-run sixth inning and an insurance tally in the eighth were nearly enough for Stephen F. Austin on Saturday afternoon from Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field. The Jacks carried a 6-5 lead into the eighth, added a tally in the frame, but allowed two in the home half before Southeastern Louisiana walked off the Jacks in the ninth to win game two 8-7 and take the series. The loss drops SFA to 11-9 overall with a 4-4 record in SLC play. SLU improves to 11-8 and 4-1 in conference action. Sunday's series finale is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Cody Templeton went 5.0 innings allowing nine hits and five runs, before giving way to Jack James who pitched the sixth, seventh and eighth innings allowing the Lions' two runs in the frame. Seanan Farney worked the ninth as SLU recorded two hits to sandwich a sac bunt that moved a runner into scoring position.

Two runs scored for the Jacks in the fifth as a fielding error in Jhett Creel's at bat resulted in two runs as SFA cut into SLU advantage at 4-2. Ethan Peña homered on the first pitch he saw in the sixth and Trey Acreman took out 1-1 offering out to left field for a three-run shot that gave SFA a 6-5 lead. A sacrifice fly off the bat of Cermodrick Bland in the eighth provided a small cushion for the Jacks, but a two-run blast by the Lions in the home half of the inning tied the game at seven.
