Jamie Varga brings in four RBIs to secure an 8-2 victory over UMass Lowell.
SAN ANTONIO, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin softball team played in the Roadrunner Classic Championship game against the UMass Lowell River Hawks Sunday morning.
After a scoreless inning and a half, SFA got on the board in the bottom of the second after two walk and a hit by pitch loaded up the bases for Kaylee Paul. Paul grounded out, but it gave Kara Pride enough time to score from third, 1-0. Jamie Varga followed that with a two-RBI single up the middle which scored Gianna Lewis and Sammy Hagman, 3-0.
SFA extended their lead in the bottom of the third after Pride hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Ellie Vance, 4-0. Vance then took matters into her own hands in the bottom of the fourth as she added an RBI single to left center to bring in SFA's fifth run of the game. After a scoreless fifth, the River Hawks got on the board in the top of the sixth with two runs, 5-2. However, the Jacks were not done as they drew three straight walks to load up the bases for Varga. Varga once again hit a two-RBI single back up the middle to bring the lead back to five, 7-2. Adelyn Becerra drew SFA's fifth walk of the inning to bring in the final run of the game. Reagan Hall entered the circle in the top of the seventh in relief of starter Jordyn Ages. After allowing a leadoff single, Hall struck out the next two batters and then forced a groundout to end the game and leave runners stranded on first and second for UMass Lowell.
