Jacks Punch their Ticket to the Championship Game of the Roadrunner Classic

Back-to-back complete game shutouts from Crimson Bryant and Kai Hudson power SFA to a 2-0 day.
SAN ANTONIO, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin softball team returned to the diamond to face UTSA and Northern Colorado.
Game 1: SFA 4, UTSA 0
The first game of the day for Jacks quickly turned into a pitcher's duel as Crimson Bryant faced off against Arlette Hernandez. Both pitchers recorded six scoreless innings with all of the scoring coming in the top of the fifth.
After a pop out, Kaylee Paul reached on a fielding error followed by Jamie Varga reaching on a fielder's choice, then a Kylie Bishop single up the middle loaded the bases for Ellie Vance. Vance reached on a fielder's choice as UTSA threw out Paul at home plate to keep the bases juiced for Ella Hill. Hill hit a blooper single to shallow left field which scored Varga and Bishop, 2-0. Kyi'Marri Ester followed with an RBI triple down the right field line to bring in Vance and Hill, 4-0. Crimson Bryant continued her pitching dominance the rest of the game as she finished the first game of the day with complete game shutout and six strikeouts.
Game 2: SFA 6, Northern Colorado 0
The Jacks went into this game as the No. 1 seed of the Roadrunner classic after their win over host UTSA. SFA started freshman Kai Hudson in the circle for game two. Both teams pitched two scoreless innings before the Jacks got on the board in the bottom of the third. After a fly out, Bishop hit a single up the middle then Vance drew a walk to put runners on first and second for Adelyn Becerra. Becerra blasted a home run over the left field wall to put the Jacks on top, 3-0. The scoring did not stop there as Malia Jones followed in Becerra's footsteps with a solo homerun in the bottom of the fourth, 4-0.
In the bottom of the fifth, Vance hit a leadoff single then Hill was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second for Jones. Jones continued her hot streak with an RBI single through the left side to score Vance, 5-0. Jones and Alexis Grigsby then advanced on a wild pitch before Jo Kusenberger hit an RBI single up the middle to score Grigsby, 6-0. Hudson was able to hold strong in the circle to prevent a Bears comeback as SFA won their second game of the day and punched their ticket to the Roadrunner Classic Championship Game.
POSTGAME NOTES
• SFA punches their ticket to the Roadrunner Classic Championship Game after going 3-1 this weekend.
• Kylie Bishop went 5-8 from the plate with two runs.
• Malia Jones was 2-2 with one run, one homerun and two RBIs against Northern Colorado.
• Kai Hudson and Crimson Bryant combined for a shutout 14 innings and struck out eight batters.
UP NEXT
SFA will play in the Roadrunner Classic Championship Game against the winner of UTSA vs UMass Lowell. If UMass Lowell wins SFA will play then at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow, but if UTSA wins SFA will play them at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow.
