Harmanie Dominguez moves to seventh place in career threes at SFA
NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin women's basketball program began their four-game homestand against top seeded McNeese Thursday night.
McNeese got out to a 4-0 lead before SFA went on a 9-0 run thanks to back-to-back three pointers from Harmanie Dominguez. The Cowgirls scored four more points before Dominguez drained her third three of the first quarter, 12-8 with 2:18 left. A last second layup from Kaylinn Kemp gave the Ladyjacks a 14-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Both teams traded baskets to begin the second quarter before back-to-back threes from Lydia Cajuste and Dominguez extended SFA's lead to ten, 22-12 with 6:41 left. McNeese responded immediately with a 10-0 run to tie the game up at 22 with 3:49 left in the second quarter. A tip-in layup from the Cowgirls with 27 seconds left gave them a 28-26 lead at halftime.
Both teams traded blows in the third quarter as neither team held more than a two-point lead until back-to-back layups from Key Roseby and Aziyah Farrier gave SFA a five-point lead, 43-39 with 3:07 left in the third. Two free throws from Ashlyn Traylor-Walker and another three from Cajuste secured a six-point lead for the Ladyjacks with under two minutes left. SFA headed to the fourth quarter with a four-point lead, 48-44.
McNeese once against started the quarter hot with a 6-0 spurt to retake the lead. The Cowgirls' lead grew to as much as five with 3:35 left in the game. The Ladyjacks made it a one-point game with 1:52 left. A McNeese layup grew to three with 34 seconds left, but the Ladyjacks were not done as Traylor-Walker nailed a three to tie the game with 21 seconds left. A missed last second jumper from the Cowgirls sent the game to overtime.
The Cowgirls began overtime on a 6-0 run but a three-pointer from Roseby made it a one possession game with 1:16 left. Three free throws from McNeese secured a 70-64 overtime win for the top seeded Cowgirls.
POSTGAME NOTES
• Harmanie Dominguez moved into seventh in All-Time three-pointers at SFA and led the team with 19 points and four threes.
• Kaylinn Kemp followed with 10 points and grabbed six boards (ties her career high).
• Key Roseby and Aziyah Farrier tied for the team lead with nine rebounds.
• Ashlyn Traylor-Walker led the team with four assists and tied Farrier for the team lead with two blocks.
