
Ladyjacks Fall to Cardinals in Beaumont

BEAUMONT, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin women's basketball program made the quick trip down to Beaumont for a Saturday afternoon matchup against the Lamar Cardinals.
SFA got out to a 10-5 lead early in the first quarter as both offenses were firing on all cylinders early. However, Lamar went on a 9-0 run while SFA went on a three-minute scoring drought as the Cardinals fought out of the early hole to take a 14-10 lead with 3:57 left in the first quarter. Two made free throws from Key Roseby and a jumper from Anika Hyland tied the game up at 14 at the end of the first quarter.
Lamar regained their lead in the second quarter and never looked back as they quickly got their lead back to four. Ashlyn Traylor-Walker made her season debut and knocked down her first free throw of the season with 8:03 left in the second quarter, 18-15. The Cardinals ended the first half on a 9-0 spurt to take a 13-point lead into the locker room, 34-23.
The Ladyjacks came out of the locker room and went on a 7-2 run to cut the deficit to eight with 7:41 left in the third. Both teams traded blows, but the Cardinals knocked down a three with 46 seconds left to take an 11-point lead to the fourth quarter, 52-41.
Lamar did not take their foot off the gas as they scored the first five points of the fourth quarter, 57-41. Two minutes later SFA went on a quick 6-2 spurt with three pointers from Roseby and Traylor-Walker, but Lamar continued to hold a commanding 12-point lead. With 3:10 left in the game, the Ladyjacks went on a 5-0 run to bring the lead down to 10, 70-60. SFA was unable to complete the comeback as Lamar won the game 73-63.
POSTGAME NOTES
• Key Roseby led the team with 16 points, four three-pointers and two steals.
• Kaylinn Kemp scored 12 points and led the team with five assists for her 14th straight game with at least five assists.
• Aziyah Farrier led the team with seven boards and tied for the team lead with two blocks.
• Ashlyn Traylor-Walker scored six points and recorded two blocks as she made her comeback to the court.
