Kapel Grabs SLC Runner of the Week honors

'Jacks see athlete claim award for second-straight week
FRISCO, Texas - The Southland Conference announced the league's runners of the week on Tuesday afternoon and for the second-straight week a Stephen F. Austin runner has claimed the weekly honor. Kapenguria, Kenya native Nathan Kapel, who returned to SFA this season following a stint at Texas Tech, earned the league's award following a dominant performance at the Demon Invitational.
Kapel led the 'Jacks to the team title as his 6K title time of 18:04.44 pushed him across the tape 33 seconds faster than the second place finisher. SFA beat Lamar, McNeese and Northwestern State as well as Louisiana Tech on the course that will host the SLC Championships in October.
Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school's sports information director. Voting for one's own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on 25 percent of ballots.
