‘Jacks Split Match in a 2-2 Draw at Arkansas State

JONESBORO, Ark. – Stephen F. Austin Women's Soccer played to a draw against the Red Wolves of Arkansas State in a 2-2 final on August 21.
Before the fans settled in for the start of the match, SFA struck quickly with an opening goal 30 seconds in to put the 'Jacks up 1-0. Bryn Geppert was able to locate Avery Brandt just in front of the SFA bench, where Brandt pushed the 'Jacks offense inside the attacking third. Brandt fed a pass to Brielle Buchanan, who was able to deflect it past the Red Wolves keeper. SFA went on to put five more shots before a header by Taylor Dodson on a free kick from Alexis Miller increased the Lumberjacks lead to put SFA up 2-0 in the 33rd minute. Sierra McCluer pulled in three saves for SFA in the first half, while the 'Jacks defense held the Red Wolves to five total shots within the first half.
With 45 minutes played, the second half saw its first action in the 71st minute when Arkansas State netted one to pull within one of SFA. Nine minutes later, Arkansas State found the equalizer with 10 minutes left to play to put the score at 2-2. SFA collected three more shots in the second half and finished the match out-shooting the Red Wolves 11-9.
POSTGAME NOTES
SFA moves to 0-1-2 on the season and will head back to Texas for the back half of their four-game road trip, with their 29th matchup against Texas State on Thursday, August 28, at 7:30 PM.
