Taylor Dodson's late game heroics sees the freshman drill her first collegiate goal to draw even with SHSU
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin Women's Soccer team drew 1-1 against Sam Houston in the season opener on August 14.
In the first half, the 'Jacks looked to capitalize on scoring opportunities, tallying 11 shots out of the 17 on the night. SFA limited the scoring opportunities for the Bearkats, holding them to three shots in the first half. Twenty-five minutes into the match, Sam Houston found the back of the net, putting the visitors up 1-0 to conclude the action during the remainder of the first half.
With the second half underway, the Lumberjacks and Bearkats traded shots, matching at six apiece. With the clock running down, a free kick was spotted, giving SFA a chance to set up outside of the box. Brielle Buchanan connected with freshman Taylor Dodson to put the 'Jacks even with the Bearkats with 15 minutes left to play. As the clock hit 90 minutes following the SFA tying goal, SFA and Sam Houston battled for a late-game winner, both tallying three shots each before ending in the 1-1 draw.
