LAKE CHARLES, La. - The Stephen F. Austin Baseball Team (15-31, 6-21 SLC) defeated the hosting McNeese State University Cowboys (31-13, 18-9 SLC) 10-3 on Sunday afternoon to claim the series win over the Cowboys.

The Lumberjacks came out of the gates firing in the top of the first as Cermodrick Bland led off the game with a double, which was followed by a Josh Ibe single to put runners on the corners for SFA. Julian Swift continued his hot weekend as he laced an RBI double into left to score Bland and give SFA an early 1-0 lead. Mark Henning kept the runs coming for SFA with a sacrifice fly to center to score Ibe from third and extend the SFA lead to 2-0, with Kevin Duran capping off the big first inning for SFA with an RBI single to score Swift and make the score 3-0 in favor of SFA.

The two schools would exchange scoreless second and third innings, before the SFA offense exploded once again in the top of the fourth. Ethan Adkisson and Dalton Mullins led off the inning with consecutive singles, before Cermodrick Bland walked to load the bases for the 'Jacks. Cooper Schneider stepped in and lined a two-run single to left to extend the SFA lead to 5-0. Cermodrick Bland would score off an error to make it 6-0, and Josh Ibe would put the cherry on top of the inning for SFA with a two-run home run to left to stake SFA to an 8-0 lead after four full innings of play.

The Cowboys plated three runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the SFA lead to 8-3 after five full innings of play. SFA would strike right back in the top of the sixth as Matthew Reinholtz led off the inning with a double, which was followed with a Cermodrick Bland single to put runners on the corners for SFA. The Lumberjacks would get sneaky as Reinholtz would steal home to plate another run for SFA to make it 9-3, before Mark Henning would tack on an RBI single to extend the SFA lead back to 10-3.

Both offenses would quiet down over the final three innings as neither team was able to scratch across a run, with Jack James pitching a gem out of the bullpen for SFA as he tossed four scoreless innings to help lock down the 10-3 rubber match win for the Lumberjacks and the series win.
