
Second Seeded Ladyjacks Begin Quest for Southland Championship

THIBODAUX, La.- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack Tennis team (14-6, 8-1 SLC) wrapped up the regular season as the number two seed in the Southland standings and now head to Thibodaux to compete in the Southland Conference Championship.
Ladyjacks at a Glance:
The Ladyjacks put the cherry on top of their impressive 2025 regular season on Saturday as they edged out the Northwestern State University Lady Demons 4-3 at home to secure their fourth Southland Conference Championship in school history. The Ladyjacks posted a strong 8-1 conference record this season, with five of those eight conference wins coming via sweep, while recording nine total sweeps on the season. SFA posted matching 7-3 home and away records this season and ended the regular season on a four-game winning streak, with all four wins coming on their home courts.
The Ladyjacks success this season did not go unnoticed as five Ladyjacks were named to All-Conference Teams. Ksenia Mamontova, Jemma Cave, and Sonja Rooth all earned spots on the All-SLC First Team after each posted fantastic 2025 seasons. Mamontova, the no. 2 singles, finished with a 15-2 overall record, is currently on a 11-game win streak, and holds the most wins as the no. 2 singles player in the conference. Cave posted a 13-3 overall record as the no. 3 singles, while holding a 6-1 conference record, and finished her 2025 campaign on a four-game winning streak, Meanwhile, Rooth went 14-2 overall as the no. 4 singles, went undefeated in conference play, and clinched the match win and share of the regular season title for SFA against the Lady Demons with her singles point.
The no. 2 doubles combination of Felicia Back and Sonja Rooth secured a spot on the All-SLC First Team after the pairing posted a 6-2 overall record and went undefeated in conference play this season. Last but certainly not least, Jemma Cave and Ana Paula Chávez locked down their spot on the All-SLC Second Team as the no. 1 doubles pairing for SFA after they posted a 14-2 overall record, with the 14 wins marking the second most wins by a doubles pair in the conference.
Lady Lions at a Glance:
The Southeastern Louisiana University Lady Lions get set for a matchup with the Ladyjacks after handily defeating the New Orleans University Privateers in the first round 4-0 as they took the doubles point from the Privateers and then won all three singles points against the Privateers. The Lady Lions finished the regular season as the number seven seed in the Southland standings as they posted a 14-8 overall record and 3-6 conference record.
Series:
The first-round matchup between SFA and SLU will see these two Southland schools square off for the 18th all-time meeting, with SFA holding a slim 9-8 series lead over the Lady Lions to date. The Ladyjacks won the most recent meeting just two weeks ago as they posted a dominating 7-0 home sweep of the Lady Lions in Nacogdoches.
