
Ladyjacks Quest for Southland Championship Begins Against Colonels

LAKE CHARLES, La.- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks Basketball Team (26-5, 16-4) heads to Lake Charles to compete in the Southland Tournament, up first for the Ladyjacks is a rematch with the Nicholls State University Colonels (17-13, 9-11 SLC).
Ladyjacks at a Glance:
The Ladyjacks capped off a historic close to their 2025 regular season last Saturday at the Sawmill as they dismantled the Nicholls State Colonels 79-56 on senior day, and picked up their 12th consecutive win in the process. Over the course of this impressive win streak, the 'Jacks have won seven of their 12 games by double-digit points, while flaunting their no. 1 ranked offense in the Southland as they have scored over 70 points in nine of their 12 wins during the streak. SFA averaged 78.8 points/game this season, good to rank them 18th in the nation, while their 46.25 field-goal percentage ranked them inside the top-25 in the nation as well. One of the main drivers behind the explosive Ladyjack offense this season was their conference leading 296 three-point field goals which ranked them fourth in the entire nation, and allowed SFA to score in a multitude of ways on the court. The Ladyjacks now set their sights on winning their 19th Southland Championship and be crowned Southland champs for the first time since 2021.
Colonels at a Glance:
The Nicholls State University Colonels snapped their five-game losing skid in a big way in their first-round matchup against the UTRGV Vaqueros as they escaped the Vaqueros with a nail-biting 55-53 win to advance to the quarterfinals against the Ladyjacks. The Colonels overcame a six-point halftime deficit and put the dagger to the Vaqueros heart with a last second layup to squeak past UTRGV and will now set their sights on SFA for the third time this season.
Scouting Report-Ladyjacks:
A trio of Ladyjacks earned Southland Postseason Awards on Saturday afternoon. Faith Blackstone was named to the All-Southland First Team, and turned into one of the most prolific scorers in the Southland this season as she scored 478 points and averaged 15.4 points/game, both good enough to rank her second in the Southland. Blackstone was a reliable free-throw shooter for SFA this season as she made 132 free-throws this season, ranking her eighth all-time in SFA school history for made free-throws in a single season. Ashlyn Traylor-Walker was named to the All-Southland Second Team as her first season in the purple and white saw her form a dynamic duo offensively with Blackstone. Traylor-Walker finished second on the team scoring 425 points and averaging a heatlhy 13.7 points/game, while having no problem dishing out assists as she led the Southland with 145 assists this season. Trinity Moore was a force to be reckoned with on the defensive side for the 'Jacks as she was named to the Southland All-Defensive Team. Moore pulled down 203 boards this season and ranked second in the conference with 42 blocks, while being just as dangerous offensively as she scored 357 points and averaged 11.5 points/game.
Scouting Report-Colonels:
Deonna Brister and Elli Garnett helped power Nicholls to their win over the Vaqueros in the opening round of the SLC Tournament. Brister led the team with 17 points, while tacking on three steals defensively, while Garnett pitched in with a double-double that came in the form of a 13-point, 12-rebound effort while leading the defensive show with four steals. Jesslynn Jalomo totaled nine points of her own, while leading the team with a pair of assists, and adding on two rebounds.

Tuesday afternoon's quarterfinals matchup will see these two Southland foes clash for the third time this season and the 22nd all-time meeting. These two schools split the regular season series, however, SFA won the most recent meeting just over a week ago as they took home a 79-56 senior day home win over the Colonels.
