
Four Ladyjacks Score Double-Digits as SFA Secures Spot in Semifinals

LAKE CHARLES, La.- The Stephen F. Austin women's basketball team (27-5, 16-4 SLC) secured the number three seed in the Southland Conference Tournament and faced off against the number seven seeded Nicholls Colonels (17-14, 9-11 SLC) for the second time in ten days.
SFA started off hot with back-to-back threes from Trinity Moore and Key Roseby, 6-0. Nicholls made a layup and a jumper to cut the lead down to two before SFA made five free throws in a row, 11-4 with 4:42 left in the first. Both teams traded baskets for the next several minutes until the 'Jacks went on a five-point spurt to take a commanding 20-9 lead with 52 seconds left in the first. Nicholls scored the last two buckets of the first quarter to cut the SFA lead down to seven, 20-13.
The Ladyjacks began the second quarter on an 8-1 run that was capped off by a three from Harmanie Dominguez, 28-14. Nicholls responded with a 6-0 spurt to cut the lead to eight, 28-20 with 6:17 left in the second quarter. Both teams traded mini runs the rest of the quarter, but Dominguez finished the quarter with an exclamation mark as she drained a three-pointer to extend the SFA lead to ten, 40-30.
SFA began the second half the same way as the first with back-to-back three-pointers from Dominguez and Moore, 46-30. Both teams traded blows as SFA hovered around a ten-point lead for a majority of the third. However, the Colonels finished the quarter on 6-0 run that cut the deficit to seven, 59-52.
Nicholls knocked down a three to start the fourth quarter but then SFA responded with a six-point run to retake a double-digit lead, 65-55 with 8:43 left in the game. A six-point spurt by Nicholls cut the lead down to four for SFA, 65-61. The 'Jacks were able to regain a double-digit lead after clutch free throw shooting from Faith Blackstone, Roseby, and Moore, 75-65 with 1:22 left in the game. Blackstone knocked down two more free throws to ice the game and secure a 77-65 victory for the Ladyjacks.

SFA's 13th win in a row sends the 'Jacks to the Southland Conference Semifinals for the first time since 2021 (the last year in the SLC). 2021 was the last year SFA won the women's basketball tournament. The Ladyjacks will face the number two seeded Lamar Cardinals on Wednesday, March 12th at 1:00 p.m.
