
Elkana Kipruto Sets School Record as Lumberjacks Finish Three Meets

Valentine Invitational
BOSTON, Massachusetts - The Stephen F. Austin Track team competed in the Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University, against a field of over 100 schools.
The main story from this event was Elkana Kipruto, as he set a new SFA school record in the men's 5,000 meters. His time of 13.37.01 was good enough to place him in 24th place, the only 'Jack to have a top-25 finish at the Invitational.
Tyson Invitational
FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas - The Lumberjacks also sent athletes to the Fayetteville Invitational in Arkansas, hosted by the University of Arkansas.
Bryson Williams had a great meet, placing 2nd in the men's triple jump with a mark of 15.63m. Jarvis Anderson was not too far behind him as he also placed in the top ten in the men's triple jump. His mark of 14.79m was good enough for a 7th place finish. Ryan Binskin also secured a top-20 finish, placing 16th in the men's 3,000m run with a time of 8.21.80. Wyatt Hoover also ran the 3,000m and placed 18th with a time of 8.22.75. Joel Aihia had a top-20 finish as well, placing 17th in the men's 60m dash with a time of 6.98.
Howie Ryan Invitational
HOUSTON, Texas - Finally, the Lumberjacks sent a group back to Houston this weekend to compete in the Howie Ryan Invitational, hosted by the University of Houston.
The Lumberjacks had multiple top-10 finishes at this meet. On the men's side, Jackson Parrish placed 6th in the men's 800 meters with a time of 1.55.39. Bennett Meyer-Wills secured an 8th-place finish in the men's mile with a time of 4.18.18. Rhyan Smith, Jackson Parrish, Blake Hyatt, and Bennett Meyer-Wills brought home a top-five finish in the men's 4 x 400 relay, placing 2nd with a time of 3.28.07. For the field events, Nicholas Grullon placed 5th in the men's high jump with a mark of 2.06m. Garrett Savage and Cade Carter both secured top-10 finishes in the men's pole vault. Savage placed 6th with a mark of 4.97m, and Carter finished in 10th place with a mark of 4.67m. In the men's shot put, the 'Jacks placed three guys in the top 10. James Williams placed 6th with a mark of 15.18m, Kason J. Reed finished 8th with a mark of 14.96m, and Samuel Reihle came in 10th place with a 13.90m mark. To round out the event for the men, Reed also placed 7th in the men's weight throw with a mark of 17.54m.
For the women, Kierra Yarbrough and Whitnee Teagle both brought home top-5 finishes in the women's 60 meters. Yarbrough finished in 3rd place with a time of 7.63, while Teagle placed 5th with a time of 7.71. In the women's mile, Elina Bailey placed 7th with a time of 5.14.67. Teammate Landry Perkin was not too far behind, though, as she placed 9th with a time of 5.14.96. In the women's 3,000-meters, the Lumberjack women had three girls place in the top 10. Trude Lamb placed 8th with a time of 10.12.43, Sharon Boyani placed 4th with a time of 10.00.90, and Valentine Jemutai placed 3rd with a time of 10.00.20. In the field events for the women, Saga Olafsdotir Arnholtz placed 9th in the women's high jump with a mark of 1.62m. Reis Johnson and Kira Van Den Ham both placed in the top-10 in the women's pole vault. Johnson placed 4th with a 3.67m mark, and Vann Den Ham placed 6th with a mark of 3.67m. Faith Nze placed 7th in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.71m. Finally, Alondra Loya placed 9th in the women's weight throw with a mark of 14.04m.

The Lumberjacks will have some time off before going to Birmingham, Alabama to compete in the Southland Conference Championships on March 2nd and 3rd.
