HUNTSVILLE, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks Softball team (1-3, 0-0) get set for a midweek road matchup against longtime rival Sam Houston State (3-2, 0-0) on Wednesday night in Huntsville.
Lumberjacks at a Glance:
The Lumberjacks will be looking to build off their opening weekend where they competed in the East Texas A&M Leadoff. The 'Jacks started the weekend off strong posting a 13-3 run-rule win in five innings over Texas Southern University where SFA started off strong scoring eight runs in the first two innings and never looking back. The win saw plenty of Lumberjacks get in on the offensive action as 10 different Lumberjacks recorded an RBI, 10 different Lumberjacks record a hit, and 10 different Lumberjacks score a run. Despite losing the last three games of the weekend, the 'Jacks offense scored at least three runs in every game of the leadoff and will now look to carry their offensive momentum on the road against rival Sam Houston State.
Bearkats at a Glance:
The Sam Houston State Bearkats will also be looking to get back in the win column on Wednesday evening at home as after winning their first three games of the season by outscoring their opponents 22-1 in those three games, the 'Kats have dropped their last two matches including a tough draw against no. 1 ranked Texas. The Bearkats will close out their season-opening six-game homestand against SFA and will be looking to keep their offense hot as they have scored 27 runs over the first five games of the homestand.
Scouting Report-Lumberjacks:
Kaylee Paul made an opening weekend statement for SFA last weekend at the East Texas A&M Leadoff as she went 9-12 at the plate and holds a .750 batting average, which ranks her second in the entire nation in that category. Paul's hits came at big moments for SFA as she also holds the team lead in RBIs with four, while tying Mikaelah Burkland for the team lead in runs with three each. Hope Lusk, Jamie Varga, Ella Hill, and Gabby Coffey brought the pop to the ballpark last weekend as Lusk recorded a pair of doubles, Varga knocked a pair of triples, and both Hill and Coffey went deep for their first homeruns as a Lumberjack. Alexis Telford picked up where she left off last season in the circle for SFA as she pitched to the tune of a sparkling 1.80 era over the weekend allowing just one earned run over 6.1 innings pitched.
Scouting Report-Bearkats:
Bella Perez and Brodie Quinlan have been mashing at the plate to open up the year for Sam Houston. Perez leads the team with a .462 batting average while adding on a double and a pair of homeruns to lead the team, while Quinlan has been just as solid as she has recorded a .438 average while adding on two doubles, a triple, and a homerun of her own to tie Perez for the team lead in RBIs with four. As a pitching staff, the Bearkats have started off strong as they hold a 2.33 team era, striking out 22 hitters in 33 innings as a staff.

Wednesday night's road matchup will continue this historic rivalry between these two schools as it will feature the 152nd all-time meeting with Sam Houston leading the all-time series 81-70. SFA, however, won the most recent meeting in unforgettable fashion as they plated 10 runs in the bottom of the sixth last season to stun the Wildcats and claim an 11-5 home victory.

The hosting Texas State University Bobcats will kick off the Bobcat Tournament against SFA with games on the 13th and 14th. The Bobcats can make themselves at home over the next few weeks as they open the season with an astounding 16 straight home games, posting a 2-2 record so far to begin the season with wins over San Diego and Lipscomb. The Bobcats are coming off the heels of a 47-win season last year and an appearance in the NCAA tournament, which helped them be the Preseason Coaches' Poll Favorite to win the Sun Belt this season.
Scouting Report-Bobcats:
Karmyn Bass has gotten off to a strong start at the plate for the Bobcats as she is 5-10 to begin the season with a triple and a pair of RBIs as well. Meanwhile, Madison Azua has been solid in the circle for the Bobcats as she holds a 1.50 era, allowing just three runs over 14 innings while striking out 12 batters. Defensively, Aiyana Coleman leads the charge with a team-leading 30 putouts and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

The Bobcat Tournament kicks off with an iconic matchup renewed for another season as it will mark the 95th and 96th all-time meetings between these two teams, with Texas State leading the all-time series 55-39. The Fordham University Rams make the trip to San Marcos looking to build off their opening weekend last weekend where they participated in the Charleston Invitational and came away with a 1-4 record. The Rams posted a 5-1 win over Charleston, but experienced plenty of heartbreak as they lost a pair of 2-1 games to North Dakota State as they now aim to get back in the win column against SFA. Fordham was tabbed to finish fourth in the Atlantic 10 Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll coming off the heels of a 25-29 season where they posted a 15-11 conference record last year.
Scouting Report-Rams:
Mallory McClellan got off to a strong start at the Charleston Invitational as she will carry a .400 batting average into the Bobcat Tournament with a double, triple, and three RBIs already tallied this season. Holly Beeman was a workhorse for Fordham in the Charleston Invitational as she tossed 14 innings, allowing just four runs, while punching out nine batters and throwing two complete games. Eva Koratsis leads the defensive effort with a team-high 29 putouts and a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.

The University of St. Thomas Tommies will be carrying plenty of confidence with them into the Bobcat Tournament as after dropping their season-opener to Butler 5-4, the Tommies have rattled off four straight wins and carry a 4-1 overall record into the tournament. The Tommies offense has been firing on all cylinders to start the year as they have posted three games with over five runs and have scored a combined 32 runs over their first five games. The Tommies are looking to build off a third-place finish in the Summit League last season as they return 19 players from last season to this season.
Scouting Report-Tommies:
Kaitlyn Raymond has been on a tear to begin the season for the Tommies as she will carry a .632 batting average into the Bobcat Tournament with 12 hits, including both a double and a triple and a team-high five RBIs. Laken Lienhard, Cassidy Carby, and Avery Wukawitz have been just as hot to begin the season at the plate as all three have seven hits and a batting average over .400. Ella Cook has been just as effective in the circle as she holds a 0.90 era, allowing just one run in 10 innings and striking out 14 hitters this year.

The Bobcat Tournament finale for SFA will feature the first-ever meeting between SFA and The University of St. Thomas Tommies as SFA looks to end the Bobcat Tournament on a high note.
