
SFA Advances to SLC Semifinals after 4-2 Shootout Win over Islanders

Dodson tallies SFA’s lone goal, while Heausler secures the ‘Jacks advancement with the decisive PK.
BEAUMONT, Texas – Stephen F. Austin women's soccer advanced to the SLC Soccer semifinals after tying the Islanders 1-1, as SFA won it 4-2 in a shootout on Tuesday, November 4.
Taylor Dodson was able to find the scoreboard for the 'Jacks. In just the second minute of the match, Logan Heausler found Dodson open inside of SFA's attacking third, where she was able to quickly take advantage of her beaten defender to open the door to a 1-0 SFA lead. With just one minute remaining in the match, Mai-Lisa Atis was awarded a penalty kick on an SFA foul, as she was able to connect and bring the match to an even 1-1, going into overtime. After 20 minutes of overtime, a shootout was the only solution to resolving the tie. SFA took the match in a 4-2 shootout score.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi put up 16 shots, 10 shots on goal, and one goal in the match. Mai-Lisa Atis not only accounted for the Islanders' goal, but also for half of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's shots. Jessie Spurrell recorded twelve saves for the Islanders, allowing one goal in 110 minutes.
The Lumberjacks recorded one goal by Taylor Dodson, as the team recorded 18 shots and 13 shots on goal. Sawyer Kohutet led the 'Jacks offensive charge with four shots, with Brielle Buchanan, Taylor Dodson, Alexis Miller, and Logan Heausler all recording three shots. Sydney Williams, Erin Morgan, Bryn Geppert, and Avery Brandt all recorded a full 110-minute match, holding the Islanders' offense to one goal with 10 shots on goal. Sierra McCluer not only saw the field for 110 minutes, but also during penalty kicks, when she allowed only two goals, after recording nine saves during the match.
No. 2 SFA will now square up with No. 6 Lamar in the SLC Soccer semifinals, scheduled for 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, November 6, in Beaumont, Texas.
