SFA’s early pressure paid off with a 28th-minute goal as the ‘Jacks battled to a 1-1 draw in San Antonio.
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Stephen F. Austin women's soccer tied the Cardinals of UIW in a 1-1 match on Thursday, October 23.
SFA netted the opening goal in the 28th minute, as Taylor Dodson was able to deliver a cross-pass straight to Logan Heausler, where she was able to hit a one-timer to give the 'Jacks a 1-0 lead halfway through the first half. The match remained quiet until Abigail Wilson opened the Cardinal scoring with an assist from Sinead Duffy to bring the match all square at 1-1.
UIW only rattled off one shot in the first half and opened in the second with seven shots as they recorded three shots on goal for the night. Joella Livingston was credited with two shots, leading the Cardinal offense, in front of six Cardinals, recording one shot. Hannah Alexander allowed one goal with two saves on the night.
The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks kept it close in the shot department, having one fewer than UIW with seven shots. Logan Heausler and Taylor Dodson each picked up a point in their mix on the 'Jacks goal, as Heausler led SFA in shots. On defense, Sawyer Kohutek tallied two shots for SFA, as Kohutek, alongside Sydney Williams, Avery Brandt, and Erin Morgan, recorded 90 minutes. Sierra McCluer adds two more saves to her impressive season, allowing only one goal at UIW.
