
Lumberjacks Fall to Huskies

NACOGDOCHES, Texas. The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (7-8, 0-4) were defeated by the visiting Houston Christian University Huskies (5-10, 2-2) 83-73 on Monday evening at the Sawmill.
The Huskies jumped out to an early lead as they scored the first seven points of the game to take an early 7-0 lead. DaeVeon Scott came off the bench and would get the Lumberjacks on the board shortly after as he would knock down a three-pointer and cut the Huskies lead to 7-3 four minutes into the first half.
The Huskies would extend their lead at the midway point of the first half as they would hold an 18-6 lead over SFA. The Lumberjacks would come roaring back as they would embark on a 11-2 scoring run thanks to five straight points from Dominic Pangonis, as well as points from Juhlawnei Stone and Nana Antwi-Boasiako to trim the Huskies lead to 20-17.
Dominic Pangonis would continue his dominating first half as he would rattle off another five straight points to help offset a pair of HCU triples. The Huskies would extend their lead to 35-21 with five minutes left in the half and held a 40-26 lead at halftime.
Matt Hayman opened the second half for both sides with a three-pointer on SFA's first possession to cut the HCU lead to 40-29. Following a pair of HCU baskets, SFA would find their groove offensively once again as they would explode for an 8-0 scoring run thanks to points from Juhlawnei Stone, Keon Thompson, and Dominic Pangonis to bring SFA to within seven points at 44-37.
The Huskies still maintained a steady double-digit point lead at 58-43 at the halfway point of the second half. With five minutes left the Huskies held a 72-52 lead, however, SFA would start to slowly chip away at the Huskies lead as an 10-3 scoring run would bring the deficit to 75-62 with three minutes remaining in the game. The Lumberjacks put together a good offensive run as the second half came to a close and ultimately fell 83-73 to the Huskies.

The Lumberjacks will hit the road later this week as they travel to Beaumont for a date with the Lamar University Cardinals on Saturday, January 11th. Tip-off for Saturday's Southland Conference clash is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. CST. The Lumberjacks play three of their next four games on the road. The 'Jacks return home to host Southeastern on Monday, January 13 in a 6:30 p.m. game before playing their next two games on the road against Nicholls (Jan. 18) and McNeese State (Jan. 20).
