HOUSTON, Texas - The SFA Track and Field team will travel back to Houston this weekend to participate in the Robert Platt Invitational, hosted by the University of Houston. SFA started out the year by competing in the Leonard Hilton Memorial, also hosted by UH.
The meet starts at 11:00 A.M. on Friday with the women's Pentathlon and 60-meter hurdles and will wrap up on Saturday with the men's Heptathlon and 1,000-meter run.
Head Coach Robert Hansen is excited about going back to Houston. "We're excited about this opportunity to go out and compete close to home," Hansen said. "We have a lot of family friends and fans that are in the area, and they get a great opportunity to see their loved ones compete across this two-day meet."
Coach Hansen also knows how big this event is, saying, "We're bringing a huge chunk of our roster, and this meet will go a long way in determining some things for the SLC Championships coming up in one month."
Players to watch
Perry Watkins - Perry will be back in Houston running the 60 meters, the same event he won in Houston to open the season.
Elkana Kipruto and Riley Elliott - Elly and Riley will be running the one mile this weekend, the same event they finished first and second in to start the season in Houston. Kipruto won the 3,000 meters at the Notre Dame Invitational last weekend and Riley finished third.
