LUBBOCK, Texas - The SFA Track and Field team wrapped up the two-day Corky Classic meet on Saturday afternoon in Lubbock. Texas Tech hosted the event.
On the men's side, the 'Jacks were able to come away with four top-10 finishes. Robert Fulle had a successful day, finishing tenth in the men's 1,000 meters with a time of 2.27.38. "Robert Fulle was a true competitor." Said Coach Robert Hansen. "He made his American T&F debut in impressive fashion competing at the front of both races. He brought home two top ten performances, including a heat win in the 1000m."
On the field side for the men, Hunter Murphy, Garrett Savage, and Jarvis Anderson brought home top-10 finishes. Murphy placed ninth in the men's high jump with a mark of 1.97 meters. Murphy has had a strong start to the year, finishing top-10 at both meets after securing a third-place finish last week. Savage posted a 4.91-meter mark in the men's pole vault, also earning him ninth place. Anderson continued the trend of Lumberjacks placing ninth, posting a 15.48-meter mark in the men's triple jump. Coach Hansen was especially proud of Anderson, saying, "Jarvis making the final and battling through each jump was ultra impressive. He has laser focus on the runway, and you can see his passion with every phase of his jump."
On the women's side, the 'Jacks brought home two top-10 finishes. Jamie Richardson placed sixth in the women's high jump with a 1.70-meter jump. "Jaime had a nice bounce-back after a shaky opener in Houston," said Coach Hansen. "She is resilient and a dynamic competitor. I love how passionate she is about every bar and the energy she brings to all aspects of track and field, but especially the competition." Amirah Wooden placed sixth as well, posting a 17.76-meter mark in the women's weight throw. Coach Hansen was also very proud of how Amirah competed, stating, "She competes extremely well, and she adapted to some midweek training adjustments and some mid-competition technique adjustments very well. It speaks to her overall athletic ability and her dedication to her craft."
Overall, Coach Hansen knew that this would be a tough meet for the Lumberjacks with how many strong teams were in the field, but he's very happy with how his team performed: "As a whole, I thought we did a good job competing. I still see this as a 'January type of meet.' We had some great successes and breakthroughs, but we also had some mistakes in our process. All in all, we busted some rust, and we're prepared to move forward into the indoor season as a program."
The Lumberjacks will have a week off before traveling to Houston to take part in the Robert Platt Invitational on January 31st and February 1st.
