Tyler, Texas- Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks Valentine Jemutai won the UT-Tyler XC Opener today in Tyler, Texas.
Freshman Valentine Jemutai made her Ladyjacks debut today at the UT-Tyler XC Opener and won the meet with a final time of 18:40. Jemutai won the meet by over a minute with the second-place finisher coming in with a time of 19:48.
Head coach Rob Hansen commented on Valentine's win saying, "Valentine was exceptional. She ran with a group through the first mile then put the hammer down and dominated the second half of the race."
Elina Bailey finished 15th with a time of 21 minutes, Graycee Wilson finished 24th with a final time of 21:50 and Alexandria Navarro finished 45th with a time of 23:35.
The Ladyjacks also finished second overall in the meet.
"This was a very lowkey meet. We were working on running together as a group and just getting a bit more experience from this all freshman cast," said head coach Rob Hansen. "Today was definitely a success, but we also have a lot to learn and a lot of room to grow. I'm looking forward to the next four years with this group!"
Both teams will be back in action September 13th at the Rice Invitational in Houston, Texas.
