Lumberjack Men rated at program-best #6, Lumberjack Women hold at #10
NEW ORLEANS, La. – The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released the organization's latest regional rankings earlier this week and among the men's and women's top 10 lists in the South Central Region is Stephen F. Austin. The Lumberjack Men moved up to a program-best ranking of #6, while the Lumberjack Women held at #10.
The SFA Men move up a single spot from last week's ranking to sit behind region leader Arkansas, Tulane, Texas A&M, SLC foe Incarnate Word and Texas. The 'Jacks are rated above three Power 4 opponents in #7 TCU, #9 Houston and #10 LSU. SFA is also ranked higher than fellow SLC opposition Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (#13) and Lamar (#15).
The Lumberjack Women held their week one ranking of #10 and trail only two mid-major programs in Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (#8) and Central Arkansas (#9). The 'Jacks are rated higher than the Big 12's Houston (#11) and TCU (#15).
Both squads are unbeaten on the season with each picking up wins at the Lumberjack Invitational and the Demon Invitational; a de facto preview of the Southland Conference Championship Meet. Different 'Jacks crossed the tape for the SFA Men in the first two races of the season. True freshman Lathan Lewter won the home meet for the SFA men, while Nathan Kapel claimed the SLC Preview. On the women's side, sophomore Valentine Jemutai led the SFA Women with an average mile south of 5:40 in each race.
