
Lumberjacks Head North to Square-Off Against Mean Green

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks football team will travel to Denton, Texas for their first road game of the 2024 season against the University of North Texas Mean Green at DATCU stadium on Saturday, September 7th, 2024. Kick-off is set for 6:30 p.m. CT.
Series History
North Texas currently leads the series with a 22-4-3 record against SFA. Saturday's meeting will be the 30th time the schools have played since the beginning of the series on October 17th, 1925, which saw the Mean Green defeat the Lumberjacks by a final score of 10-0. The most recent meeting came on November 4th, 1994, which saw the two teams tie by a final score of 33-33.
A Look at SFA
The Lumberjacks are coming off a big win over the North American University Stallions in their week one home opener. The Lumberjacks dominated the game scoring 42 points in the first quarter and 28 points in the second quarter to lead 70-0 at halftime. The Lumberjacks were able to put another seven points on the board in the fourth quarter to round out the scoring. SFA won the game by a final score of 77-0 over the Stallions.
The Lumberjacks offense looked dominate early as junior quarterback Sam Vidlak made his first start for the Lumberjacks and wasted no time getting the scoring started. Vidlak found junior wide receiver Kylon Harris on the third play of the game for a 53-yard passing touchdown just 37 seconds into the game. Vidlak then went on to throw four consecutive touchdown passes to four different receivers including Rohan Fluellen, Jordan Nabors, Chris Taylor and Blaine Green. The first quarter scoring was then capped off by Jaylen Jenkins as he ran it in from 10 yards out for a touchdown. Vidlak finished the first quarter going 8-for-8 with 288 passing yards and five passing touchdowns. Qualan Jones was the leading rusher for the Lumberjacks as he totaled nine carries for 121 yards and one touchdown. Kylon Harris ended his night with four catches for 115 yards and one touchdown to lead all receivers.
The Lumberjack's defense was also stout in the win allowing only 45 passing yards and -5 rushing yards. The defense was led by junior linebacker Jaydon Southard's six total tackles and one tackle for loss. The defense also saw some fresh faces making plays as senior DB Trashawn Adams finished with two tackles, one tackle for loss and one sack. Redshirt sophomore Cole Lemons also recorded the first turnover of the year for the defense as he hauled in the first interception of his career in the fourth quarter.
A Look at UNT
UNT is coming off a week one win against the University of South Alabama by a final score of 52-38. Quarterback Chandler Morris was 32-for-41 with 415 yards passing and three touchdowns. Morris also accounted for 17 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. Ikaika Ragsdale led the rushing attack for the Mean Green with 14 rushes for 45 yards and one touchdown. Damon Ward Jr. led the way for the receivers with 12 catches for 230 yards and two touchdowns.
The Mean Green defense allowed 150 rushing yards and 432 passing yards. Jayden Hill led the way for the defense with nine total tackles. Roderick Brown also had a big game for the UNT defense totaling three tackles with two tackles for loss and two sacks.
