
Fresh Off Sweep, Ladyjacks Look Ahead to Borderland Invitational

EL PASO, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks Volleyball team (4-0) gets set for their second tournament of the season as they travel to El Paso to compete in the Borderland Invitational hosted by UTEP. Over the course of the three-day tournament, SFA will square off against Air Force (1-1), Southland Conference rival Southeastern Louisiana (0-3), and UTEP (2-1).
Ladyjacks at a Glance:
SFA will look to keep on rolling this weekend as they have roared out to a perfect 4-0 start in the young 2024 season. Three of the four wins for SFA this season have come by way of sweep, and they are coming off one of the most impressive victories they will have all season as they dismantled the visiting High Point Panthers in dominating fashion with a 3-0 sweep to extend their home winning streak to 29 games, currently the longest in the nation.
The 'Jacks have had no shortage of offense this season and are spearheaded by freshman Katherine Holtman who has made her presence felt every game this season as she leads the team with 45 kills. Izabella Ortiz has formed a dynamic scoring duo with Holtman as she has tallied 37 kills of her own to begin the season, while Sophia Wilson and Jayden Flynn have ignited the SFA offense as Flynn leads the team with 78 assists while Wilson has dished out 59 assists of her own.
Defensively, Kyanna Creecy and Molly Cravens continue to stuff opposing hitters as Creecy leads the team with 15 blocks, while Cravens leads the team with 12 solo blocks. Meanwhile, Natalie Guerrero and Camryn Hill have kept opposing offenses at bay as Guerrero leads the team with 54 digs while Hill follows closely behind with 49 digs of her own.

The Air Force Falcons carry a 1-1 record into this weekend tournament that saw them sweep Fordham to begin their 2024 season, which saw Head Coach Macey Donathan pick up her first career win as coach of the Falcons, marking the eighth Air Force coach to win a coaching debut in their school history. In their most recent game, the Falcons fell 3-0 to South Dakota.
Offensively, Ella Tschuor leads the way for Air Force with 20 kills this season, while Mia Loyd has formed a dynamic duo with Tschuor as she leads the team with 35 assists. The Falcons defense is highlighted by Mac Russ who leads the team with eight blocks this season, while Jordan Suan has compiled 19 digs in two games. Russ recorded her 300th career block against South Dakota which places her fifth all-time in the Falcons career block leaders.
Thursday afternoon's matchup will feature the first time these two schools have squared off with each other in almost 35 years as these two schools last met in 1989 with SFA claiming a clean 3-0 sweep over the Falcons.

Fellow Southland Conference opponent Southeastern Louisiana enters the Borderland Invitational looking to claim their first win of the season following the DoTERRA Classic that saw the Lady Lions come away with three hard fought losses. In their most recent game, the Lady Lions fell 3-1 to Fairfield, while also playing matches against High Point, and no. 16 BYU.
Southeastern Louisiana's offense is led by Cicily Hidaigo who leads the team with 31 kills over the team's first two games. Kyra McKelvey follows closely behind Hidaigo as she has posted 25 kills of her own. Meanwhile, Ashley Richardson and Gracie Duplechein have formed a dynamic setting duo for the Lady Lions as they have combined for over 110 assists so far this season. Hannah Brewer and India Bennett have led the way defensively as they have combined for 23 blocks, while Lexi Gonzalez has recorded 28 digs to lead all Lady Lions.
Friday's match between these two Southland Conference rivals will feature the 22nd all-time meeting between these two schools and the first time they've faced off since 2021. SFA has won six of the last seven matches between the two schools, however, the Lady Lions won their most recent meeting in 2021, 3-1 over SFA.

The host UTEP Miners will see UTEP carry a 2-1 overall record into this weekend tournament that saw the Miners compete in the Utah Classic where they fell to Utah, before stringing consecutive wins together against Green Bay and Utah State with that saw UTEP sweep both schools.
Ema Uskokovic and Torrance Lovesee have formed a solid scoring duo for the Miners this season as both have totaled 22 kills this season. Kalia Kohler leads the team with 44 assists, while Mattie Gantt has dished out 38 of her own. Kaya Weaver comfortably leads the team in blocks as she has an impressive 21 blocks including 18 solo over the first three games, while Alyssa Sianez has recorded 27 digs so far this season.
