
Ladyjacks Sweep High Point; Extend Home Winning Streak to 29 Games

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Volleyball Team (4-0) defeated reigning Big South Champions, High Point University Panthers (2-2) in front of a packed crowd in the Pressure Cooker.
The 'Jacks started off with a 3-0 run thanks to a kill from Katherine Holtman and one from Kyanna Creecy. High Point would have a three-point run of their own to tie the set up at 4. Holtman recorded two more kills which kept a slim lead for SFA until Izabella Ortiz got in on the action and recorded two kills as part of a four-point spurt. The second kill for Ortiz marked her 500th kill of her career. Later in the set, Holtman recorded back-to-back kills to put the Ladyjacks up 16-9. The teams exchanges blows for the rest of the set, but the SFA offense was too much for High Point as the 'Jacks took the first set by a score of 25-16.
SFA jumped out to a 4-2 lead early in the second with kills from Camryn Hill, Creecy, and Holtman. Later, SFA would have a six-point run which included a service ace for Sophia Wilson to give the 'Jacks a 13-6 lead. High Point put together a four-point spurt to close the gap, 17-13. The SFA offense continued to dominate in the second set as they went on a 5-2 run to secure a 25-18 second set victory.
High Point got the third set started with a 4-2 run of their own. The 'Jacks later tied the set at 7 after a kill by Molly Cravens. The Panthers went on a five-point spurt to take a 12-8 lead. SFA fought back and eventually tied the set up at 13 apiece. The Ladyjacks went on a five-point run that included two kills from Ortiz to reclaim a slim lead, 18-16. High Point won several back-to-back points and took a 22-20 lead late in the third set. However, the Ladyjacks would not be denied as they went on a 6-2 tear to finish the third set with a 27-25 victory.

The schedule begins with Air Force on Thursday, September 5th at 5:00 p.m., then continues with Southeastern Louisiana on Friday, September 6th at 4:00 p.m. and finishes with UTEP on Saturday, September 7th at 1:00 p.m.
