NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks Volleyball Team (8-5) gets set to begin conference play this weekend as they will first play host to the visiting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders (4-6) for a midweek matchup at the Pressure Cooker.
Ladyjacks at a Glance:
The Ladyjacks enter Thursday night looking to continue their dominating play at home as they are coming off the heels of an extremely successful SFA Invitational that saw SFA host a three-day tournament and come away with a perfect 3-0 record in the tournament. The Ladyjacks swept Boise State and McNeese, while defeating UTSA in four sets as SFA ran their home win streak to 32 consecutive wins, still longest in the nation as they look to keep rolling on Thursday night. Following the conclusion of the SFA Volleyball Invitational, Kyanna Creecy was named the All-Tournament MVP while both Izabella Ortiz and Molly Cravens were named to the All-Tournament Team for SFA. Creecy kept the awards and accolades flooding in after the All-Tournament MVP nomination as she was named Southland Defensive Player of the Week following a weekend where she posted 23 kills, 13 blocks, and a .538 hitting percentage.
Islanders at a Glance:
The A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders come into Thursday night looking to snap a three-game losing skid. In their most recent match, the Islanders fell 3-2 in a thrilling five-set battle with the UTEP Miners as the Islanders similar to SFA had far more success at home than on the road as Corpus has a 3-0 home record and a 1-6 record away from home. The match against SFA on Thursday continues a seven-game road trip for the Islanders where they have compiled a 1-3 record so far on the road trip. The Islanders are led by Head Coach Steve Greene who is the winningest coach in Islanders program history who is in his ninth season with the Islanders and has compiled a 139-106 overall record.

Thursday night's conference opener for both teams will feature the 28th all-time meeting between these two Southland Conference foes. SFA leads the all-time series 19-8, winning seven of the last eight meetings, and won their most recent in 2021 when they defeated the Islanders in four sets 3-1 at the Pressure Cooker.

EDINBURG, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks Volleyball Team (8-5) will then end their opening week of conference play on the road as they will travel to Edinburg for a duel with the UTRGV Vaqueros (4-6) in a Saturday matinee matchup.
Vaqueros at a Glance:
The host UTRGV Vaqueros will return home following a mini two-game road trip and will be looking to not only snap a four-game losing skid but also grab their first home win of the 2024 season. The Vaqueros have faced a slate of opponents so far this season that includes Texas Tech, Texas State, and Wyoming over the course of their non-conference slate. In their most recent match, the Vaqueros fell 3-0 to Texas State to close out the UTEP Southwest Showdown. The Vaqueros are led by Head Coach Todd Lowery who is in his 22nd season coaching volleyball and his 10th season with UTRGV. Over the course of his coaching career, Lowery has amassed a 571-158 record.
Scouting Report:
Camryn Hill and Izabella Ortiz continue to provide valuable veteran experience and production to the otherwise young SFA roster as Hill leads the team with 112 kills on the year, while Ortiz holds the top spot on the team with 135 points. Jayden Flynn continues to dish out assists with ease for SFA as she claims the team lead in that category with an impressive 258 so far this season. Natalie Guerrero helps lead a talented freshman class for SFA as she has recorded 140 digs on the season good for second most on the team, while Kyanna Creecy, fresh off being named the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week, is tied with Izabella Ortiz for the team lead in blocks with 42.
Kyndal Payne powers the Islanders offense as she leads the team in both kills (117) and points (143.5) on the year. Alex Hoglund has formed a dynamic duo with Payne offensively as she easily leads the team with 344 assists and has averaged 9.56 assists/set so far this season. Kayla White leads the defensive effort with 145 digs, while Katelyn Krienke has tallied a team-leading 19 blocks this season.
Claudia Lupescu has been the leader of the UTRGV offense to begin 2024 as she leads the team with both 112 kills and 133 points. Isabella Constantini has formed a solid compliment to Lupescu this season as she has recorded 344 assists to easily lead all Vaqueros players. Defensively, Celianiz Cabranes has been the enforcer as she has recorded 139 digs while Julianna Bryant has tallied 22 blocks at the net for UTRGV.

Saturday afternoon's matchup between SFA and UTRGV will mark the 19th meeting between these two former WAC opponents now turned Southland Conference opponents. SFA leads the all-time series 17-1 over UTRGV as they have won the last five meetings between the two schools and in their most recent meeting last season defeated UTRGV on their home court 3-1.
