BOCA RATON, Fla.- The Stephen F. Austin Women's Soccer (0-1-2) gets ready to hit the road once again as they open up a mini two-game road trip as they first travel to Florida for a Sunday afternoon matchup with the host FAU Owls (0-3-2).
Lumberjacks at a Glance:
The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks home opener was cancelled due to inclement weather, thus the 'Jacks will play their fourth consecutive road game to begin the season and their first game outside of Texas this season. The 'Jacks will search for their first win of the season as well as the first win of head coach Ben Williams' coaching career at SFA. The Lumberjack have featured a well-balanced attack on both sides of the ball as they feature a constant offensive attack mixed with a suffocating defensive presence as they have totaled at least 10 shots in each of their three games and outshot their opponent in two of the three games this season.
Owls at a Glance:
The FAU Owls return home following a short two-game road trip of their own as they will also be searching for their first win of the season. The Owls have had no cakewalk of a schedule to begin their 2024 season as they have already played matches against a trio of schools that include UCF, Miami, and most recently Alabama. The Owls are led by Head Coach Patrick Baker who is currently in his 12th season leading the Owls soccer program where he has collected over 100 wins with FAU and is one win short of 350 wins for his coaching career.
Scouting Report:
The Lumberjack offense is coming off their best game of the season against SMU as they totaled a season-high in shots (12), shots on goal (six), and goals (two). Ava Shannon exploded offensively for SFA as she totaled her first career multi-goal game of her career as well as her first career brace with goals in the 41st and 90th minutes against the Mustangs. Sawyer Kohutek also experienced a game of firsts as she tallied her first career collegiate assist and first career collegiate point against SMU on the Ava Shannon goal in the 41st minute.
The Owls offense has been spread out this season as four different players have buried a goal for FAU this season. Michelle Horan leads the team with three points this season thanks to one goal and an assist, while Olivia Bori, Drew Dempsey, and Stella Rubidoux all have netted goals as well this season. Lexi Gonzalez has started all five games in net for FAU this season and has tallied 16 saves.
Series:
Sunday afternoon's matchup will feature the first time these two schools have squared off with each other on the pitch as SFA looks to play spoiler on FAU's home field.
